2009-2010 Policies and Procedures: Parking Restrictions

Some parking areas are restricted and signed accordingly. The two main restricted zones are the Control Zone (the gated area, which includes 17th Avenue, 18th Avenue, 19th Avenue, and Millikin Road) and Main Library Zone (South Oval Drive and the area North of Orton hall and Mendenhall Lab). Please be aware of these areas and read the signs for the specifics in each area.

** Note: The Control Zone area is controlled by gate arms. An entrance gate in the upright position, or an attendant not on duty does not authorize access outside of the posted hours.

"RESTRICTED" PARKING
The “Restricted” parking spaces on campus are signed with an “R” parking sign. Each sign indicates the parking restriction for that area and who is allowed to park in the space. These spaces are reserved and enforced 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

"NO PARKING ANYTIME" AREAS
Safety precautions necessitate “no parking” areas. These areas must remain clear to permit vehicles to maneuver safely through the area. For short-term parking needs, most buildings have Loading Zones that allow parking for 15-30 minutes. Signs posted indicate the time permitted.

DISABILITY PARKING
Disability parking is located throughout campus, but some spaces are reserved for specific license plates. A current OSU Disability Parking permit is required for all students, faculty, and staff who wish to use Disability Parking. Please see these pages for for more information.

LOADING ZONES
Loading Zones on campus are signed with a posted time limit to provide access for individuals who depend on these spaces to make timely deliveries. The time limits encourage high turnover. The Loading Zone should be used for delivering heavy items only. Persons delivering small packages are encouraged to

use parking meters or designated short-term parking. Please check the posted time limits. All Loading Zones are enforced 24 hours per day and are designated tow away zones.

Loading Zones are also available for the immediate pick-up and drop-off of passengers. Loading Zones are located in areas where parking may be limited yet many people may need to access. Loading Zones also provide disabled persons a place to be picked up or dropped off safely.

LIMITED TIME ZONES
Limited time zone parking spaces are spaces on campus which have a restricted amount of time (i.e. 2 hour parking, etc.). These spaces are located in high traffic areas to provide short-term parking options and are intended to facilitate turnover. Any vehicle which remains in a limited time zone beyond the time posted is illegally parked and in violation of the parking rules. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • those individuals who back out of the space and then pull back in to the same space for another allotted amount of time and,
  • individuals who back out of a limited time zone space and pull into another limited time zone space in the same general area.

"CP" PARKING AREAS
The “CP” parking spaces are reserved for “CP” parking permit holders ("CPN", "CPS" or "CPT") only between the hours of 6:00PM and 3:00AM Monday through Friday and all day on weekends and holidays.

SafeAuto Hospitals/12th Ave. Garage
Faculty, Staff, and Students should not use designated visitor garages (SafeAuto Hospitals Garage and 12th Ave. Garage).
